UTADP Rally to Say No to the Death Penalty

High Road members, together with Utahns for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, took a stand against state-sanctioned killing on June 17, the eve of the execution of Ronnie Lee Gardner by firing squad.  The sunset rally on the steps of Utah's capitol featured music by Kate McLeod and speeches by Ralph Dellapiana, ACLU Chairman Robert Wood, Rev. Reyes Rodriguez, Brian King, Sandy McGunigall-Smith, Nanice Ellis, Kent Hart, and Clark Newhall, MD.

 Press Conference Announces the Formation of Utahns for Alternatives to the Death Penalty

Organizations, religious leaders and other concerned community members gathered at Matheson Courthouse to announce the formation of Utahns for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, of which High Road is a founding member.  Speakers at the conference included The Most Reverend John C.  U of Utah Public Debate: "The Nuclear Question"

Rocky Anderson moderated the biannual debate hosted by the University of Utah Debate Team around "The Nuclear Question."  Debaters included Christopher Thomas, Policy Director of the Healthy Environment Alliance of Utah, Tom Magette, Senior Vice President of EnergySolutions Inc., Peter Jenkins, a health physicist and Chairman of the Utah Radiation Control Board, and Gary Sandquist, professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Utah.

Rally for CO2 Reduction

Protestors converged on Utah's Capitol on Wednesday in a Rally for CO2 Reduction.  The rally was a response to the passing of HJR 12 and HJR 21, as well as the rejection of other legislation that would have incentivized green retrofits for homes and businesses.

Rocky Anderson, Rev. Diana Johnson of Utah's Interfaith Power and Light, Senate Minority Leader Pat Jones, Joe Andrade of the University of Utah, Andrew Jorgenson of the University of Utah, Thomas Reichman, and Jonathan Jemming spoke.

Protestors delivered High Road's Climate Crisis Letter with over 1,000 signatures to every member of the Utah legislature.
